Esther Lord

Esther Lord

Esther's work explores volume and balance, light and surface pattern, to create one-off handcrafted silver vessels and tableware. Each piece is unique, and can be seen as a sculptural form, as well as functional object. For Esther, silver is both a joy to work with and incredibly versatile and she wishes to express this in her work. Esther's silverware is constructed using traditional sheet fabrication techniques and hand scoring. The scored lines allow the metal sheet to be folded and manipulated into many varied forms. The pieces are overlapped and layered, exploring the effects of light on the surface of the metal. Each piece is carefully hand finished with its own, individual surface texture. The warmth and delicacy in the subtle sheen of the textured silver, contrasted with the play of light and shadow over angular folded surfaces creates a sense of fluidity and movement in the pieces.
